The men's 1st XI finally managed to chalk up that elusive first home win of the season against a struggling Bristol UWE side who's league position is perhaps not representative of their ability.
Swindon started strongly as ever, with Jim Towers and Alex Hynes winning some early short corners that went unconverted. Despite some concerted pressure and patient play, Swindon failed to capitalise and the half ended goalless.
The half time message was clear; maintain composure and continue to play the right kind of hockey and the goals would come. Bionic man Thomas Hunt started to grow into his new midfield role, working well with Pete Gilbert down the left side of the pitch. Finally, Swindon's dominance paid off. Yet another short corner was beautifully worked and Luke Cejer deflected neatly under the excellent goalkeeper.
Swindon continued to press the visitors, creating opportunities from open play that were again squandered. Eventually, another short corner was worked well and Phil Scarisbrick made amends for his earlier miss with a tidy finish.
Sam Monks and Lewis Dyer were rarely troubled around the back, remaining composed throughout, and veteran keeper Alan Gough might as well have had a deck chair for the second half. Swindon continued to press bur failed to take further advantage of their dominance.
Next week we're at home again to Leominster, 12:30pm start. Two in a row lads!
MOM: James Lewis, happy 18th buddy!
