Match report from Gemma:
Swindon hosted struggling Newent for a midday fixture, the sun even made an appearance...
Swindon started the brighter of the teams, and controlled the game which had been lacking in recent fixtures.
Swindon piled on the pressure and won a plethora of short corners through Chloe Lewis and Adriana Boullosa tireless work rate, Newent defended well with some matrix like saves out of the air.
Linda Brouwers was first to get her name on the score sheet when captain Boullosa recognised Newents weak spot and relayed to her team to slip right, Linda did this and firecrackered it beyond a scrabbling Newent keeper.
Some slick transferring through Emily White, Hope Stevenson and Angela Cooke kept the Newent forwards busy and proved fruitful for Swindon’s forwards too, releasing Rebecca Lightbody at pace, she sold her defender who had no option but to foul her, good advantage played as the ball popped out to Gemma Scrase who unchallenged nailed in a cross to Lynsey Wall on the penalty spot who’s first time shot was a thing of beauty and completely unstoppable.
2-0 up at the break.
Second half saw Newent start with more vigour and pulled swindon around forcing Swindon to communicate & concentrate more than the first half. Newent did manage a break away goal after a loose pass allowed a surge of Newent players to descend the Swindon D and muscle the ball over the line.
Swindon tighten their defence after this and again took control finishing the match calmly. Captain Boullosa said ‘I am very proud of my team, their work rate for each other and attitude was admirable’.
