Swindon Ladies 1s remain top of the league

Thanks to Rachel for this week's match report:

Swindon started Saturday morning slow with a bad warm up lacking energy and effort. However, a good team talk riled Swindon up and they started the first 10mins with the best hockey played all season and showing the opposition why we are top of the league.

Victoria Stokes scored a diving goal in first few minutes following a great pass on from the right from Gemma Scrase. Within seconds Swindon got their second. Clifton were on the back foot and wave after wave of attacks resulted in Vic passing the ball into the D which was rebounded into the air for Gem to score a superb volley, 2-0. The third goal again came from great play from Swindon and captain fantastic Adriana Boullosa managed to get the ball in the back of the net.

Swindon should have been at least 6-0 up at half time after some great play from Vic, Chloe Lewis, Ads and Hope Stevenson. The shots just went wide of the post each time. During one of these attacks, Vic dived (as per) for the ball and injured herself leaving her out for the rest of the game. 3-0 at half time.

The second half was more scrappy from Swindon and we didn’t manage the game well, making Clifton look better. Clifton drove to the top of the D and shot, going in between Sarah Anstey legs and scoring. While trying to save the shot Sarah ran out to the player and by doing so hurt her knee badly and could not continue. Ella Caldwell bravely stepped in and kitted up. Ella saved 2 amazing shots and Swindon’s defence worked tirelessly against the attacking Clifton who seemed to have a new spring in their step following half time. No subs for Swindon started to show as Swindon became more scrappy but we managed to pull it together and slowed the game down not allowing Clifton in the D. However in the dying seconds of the game Clifton were awarded a short corner which was scored, leaving the game at 3-2.

MOM - Ella for stepping up when we needed her in goal and 2 great saves

Swindon Ladies 1s are now top of the league by 12 points with 5 games to go.

Thank you to all the supporters who came to watch!!
