Swindon Ladies came close to taking a point against a top team

Swindon 0 - 1 Bath Buccs 3's
A valiant effort by all the women against a tough opposition who sit 2nd in the league. Swindon started strongly in the first half dominating possession but failed to use any of it and break down a well drilled defense. Speedy Daisy Mussard did come close with a few chances, showing her pace upfront and always looking dangerous, causing the opposition trouble with every touch of the ball. Both teams were pushing for the lead in a physical game and would be a matter of time before one had to score. After a controversial decision, Bath took the lead after a hit out which Swindon were unlucky after all their hard work and effort. But after re-grouping and some motivational speeches from the side line the Ladies pushed forward and carried on fighting in the second half. Sue Roberts certainly showed her fighting spirit with some strong "tackles" on the opposition....and you moaned at my foot Rab! We all saw. Being such a tough game the pitch turned into a blood bath with Daisy feeling to worst of the effects to the knee and head. Shortly followed with my boob feeling a ball...again from the same team! With both teams still pushing for the next goal, Swindon's defense was put under extreme pressure with attack after attack of blue shirts piling in. However with some amazing tackles by Charlotte Barker and Helen Niblock the oppositions attack came to very little and the voice of Nicci Foster-Kenyon keeping everyone together and motivated. Charlie Watson again had a fantastic game in defense, midfield, all across the pitch with some unstoppable runs and an inspirational drive to keep going. With Swindon parking the bus in front of goal, trying to prevent a further deficit, chances were limited for us but with everyone putting in a tremendous amount of effort we were able to hold the score line. Even with some "tactical" play of holding up the ball with my feet. Even with coming away with no point, the 2's can look at this as a positive for the upcoming games, with the massive improvement after the away fixture and managing to contain persistent pressure.
Well done ladies a good result against a really strong team. Lets take this performance and build on it to beat another bath team next week!
Man of the Match : Nicci Foster-Keyon for some great tackles, holding the line and keeping everyone motivated and composed at the back
Donkey - Me for the opposition's boob envy, sliding tackle and the attempt of slowing the opposition with a cheeky foot which didn't work - I nearly lasted all season without getting it !!
