strong performance for last home game

Ladies 2's 3 - 0 Marlborough 2's
The penultimate match report and what a great game it was to write about! Swindon Ladies couldn't have got off to a better start with Kim Taylor scoring the first goal of the game in the 1st minute with a cross by Ella in the D. Showing her South African sass, she turned with the ball and slotted it past the keeper- as cool as you like, for a great opening goal. Confidence now flowing throughout the whole team, Swindon dominated possession showing some absolutely stunning passes in all areas of the pitch and in complete control of the game. Angela Cooke showed why she was in contention of owning the abs on the man of the match shirt with some fantastic speedy runs down the left, causing problems for Marlborough's defense all day long and linking well with Sarah Dugmore behind. Chances coming regularly with Julie Lewis upfront, laying it off superbly to both forwards and mids, but unfortunately couldn't come up with the final product to add to the score line. With the score line at a halt, the defense pushed up giving opportunities for Helen Niblock to make some overlapping runs and showing her strength by smashing the ball across goal in dangerous areas. With Swindon pushing for the vital goal, Marlborough did get their opportunity for counter attacks but with Chloe Peppiatt and Nicci Foster-Kenyon being the solid rocks at the back, there was no passing mount everest, making some b-e-a-utiful tackles ! Oh speaking of beautiful and confidence flowing, Charlie Watson finally arrived ladies and gentlemen, showing those silky skills to nutmeg two players...in a row! Stunned by this ultimate move and needing a celebration, she even stopped to enjoy the moment and laugh with Ella being gobsmacked and overwhelmed. I would like to say Jo Harding was so shocked and overwhelmed too that she had to leave the ball for Chloe P to then miss but they were just at it again with their double dummy moves like usual, having nearly perfected it now. Charlie has now seemed to of perfected the Ella though of missing an open goal with a deflection from a short corner, missing the near post...oops! Half time and Swindon knew if they were to win this game they would need another goal and come out fighting again! Change of formation with the goal machine Tassive upfront it had to be inevitable but unfortunately she is still waiting. Instead keen Kimmy was there again from a cross by Ella to smash it through the keepers legs this time in the 41st minute. Still hungry for more and the Ladies being the fierce tigers they are, got another one shortly after in the 52nd minute with Daisy Mussard hustling and bustling to beat the keeper and finally score her first goal of the game! Marlborough now having nothing to lose, tried to catch Swindon on the break and with a splat and very comical fall from Joops they nearly did. But a quick recovery from Nicci nothing came from it. An unlucky 5 minutes saw Joops nearly have another fall but managed to keep it all together to protect her pride...think it was too late for that! Beth George came close to adding her name to the score sheet with a few close chances but a tightly compact Marlborough defense prevented the chances, even with the funky figure of 8 move she pulled out from the bag of skills. Final score finishing 3-0 and a well deserved win and clean sheet to set up a strong finish in the league. Great win by all the ladies who definitely made up for the amount of pudding ate afterwards.
Donkey - a few contenders with kim taylor not scoring her hat-trick and the wrong sugar in her pudding but stand out star was Joops for the entertaining 5 minutes.
Man of match - The anchor in midfield and more than just a pretty face after those silky skills, Charlie Watson, who was always an outlet anywhere on the pitch, some fabulous tackles made and some dangerous runs pushing forward.
Looking forward to everyone's pirate fancy dress on Wednesday and bring on the last game of the season !
