The men's 1st XI battled to a deserved win away at a previously unbeaten Isca side, but did make it hard work for themselves.

The game started poorly, with Isca taking the lead following the ball being given away in the left back position. Captain Thomas Gillingham lost sight of his man who fired hard at goalkeeper Jonathan Griffiths, who was only able to toe the ball into the top corner. Swindon continued to ride their luck, with lots of stray passes and poor control. Jim Towers couldn't stop an aerial pass all day long at right back. Despite playing poorly, it was from a great overhead pass by Chris Parsons that Swindon levelled. James Young chased what looked like a lost cause and steered the ball home from a narrow angle, much to the delight of Parsons.

Half time saw some firm words said, with coach Rob 'h' Riddell pointing out that the boys were lucky to be level at half time. Swindon went out with renewed vigour in the second half, and started to impose themselves on the game. Another overhead found it's way to Tom Sewell who controlled the ball before firing across the circle for Dave Miles to slap hard and low beyond the keeper, giving Swindon the lead for the first time. The hosts pulled level again following the award of a dubious short corner, which almost always results in a goal; the ball being fired passed Griffiths down his right via a deflection.

With the game delicately poised, it was a fantastic reverse stick tackle from Dan Palomeque that turned the game. Having won possession, he flicked the ball into the circle for Young, who rolled the ball towards goal, with Sewell coming in to make sure.

Swindon managed to see the game out for an important win. After the match, vice captain and Swindon hockey legend Tom Wickens commented, "I think this is our best ever start to a season, a couple more wins and we'll be safe from relegation!"

Next week the boys host struggling West Wilts, looking to make it 7 wins in 8.

MOM - Dave Miles, goals goals goals.
