Great first festival of the season for U14 Girls

A gentle Sunday morning’s jaunt down to Dauntsey saw the U14 Girls take part in their first festival of the season today. Emily, Eleanor, Ciara, Eve, Gemima, Amirita and Emma were the outfield squad, with Jack donning his alter-ego of Jackie, to play in goal.

Four matches played: a 3-0 win against Corsham saw the team settle in, followed by a well fought 1-0 win against Chippenham 1s (goal of day for Swindon being scored by Emily (“do I really have to play left wing??”) coming into space from the left, picking up the pass and calmly slotting past the Chippenham keeper in the dying moments - a fine effort as Chippenham’s really strong centre back had kept them in the match up to then.

A 0-0 draw against Chippenham 2s was immediately followed by facing a strong, disciplined (and rested!) Marlborough team, with the full complement of subs. The single sub and no break between the games tolled on the weary Swindon legs and, despite valiant efforts, came away with a 0-3 loss.

Special mentions to Jack(ie) for playing today (and for being Marlborough’s keeper in their other games); Emma and Amirita for playing in their first proper match for the team; Emily for her great goal; Gemima for not playing for Marlborough(!); Eve for running and not stopping; and Eleanor and Ciara for great tackling and play-making... (And, finally, for Michele for umpiring)
