Newent 0 - 4 Swindon

Swindon mixed secured safe passage into the mixed cup with a comfortable victory over a lacklustre Newent side.

The game was played at a good pace, with Swindon largely dominating possession and making good use of all of their players. Gael Little was a constant attacking threat from right back and did well to cover Thomas Hunt as often as she did!

The opening goal of the game came fairly early in the first half, a short corner that was struck by Chloe Lewis, before eventually being poked home by brother James. Swindon continued to press, with good play from Charlie George on the left of midfield and Victoria Stokes on the right. The half finished 1-0 to the visitors, who had limited the hosts to half chances.

The second half saw an early chance created for Newent, which was expertly defended by James Lewis, sacrificing his finger in the process. Matty K continued to dominate the defence with Henry Cheney, and Nicci Foster-Kenyon also put in a tremendous shift at left back. The second goal came from good work through the middle of the pitch, before Stokes had a go at goal which was deflected nicely into Jim Towers' path for an easy tap in.

A third goal for Swindon followed shortly afterwards, Luke Cejer driving around the right of the circle, before finding Stokes near the top. Her first time slapped effort was excellent and left the keeper with no chance, much to her dancing delight!

Swindon continued to play well, with Rabbit running riot down the Swindon right, silky skills and pace to boot all being shown off on pleasant Sunday afternoon. The final goal of the day saw Cejer again play the killer pass, this time finding James Lewis inside the circle who deflected well beyond the goalkeeper.

Despite the best efforts of the team, another goal couldn't be added late on, as Swindon looked to set up Chloe Lewis so that both could be on the scoresheet, but sadly it was not to be (this time).

The next mixed game is in 3 weeks... Sunday 22nd of February, though our opponents are unknown at this stage. Regardless, Swindon should go into the fixture full of confidence following an excellent team performance and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of hockey.

Player of the game: Gael Little, best right back in the club
DOD: Tom Hunt, drunken mess (ironically, when I typed DOD, my phone predicted the next two words would be Tom and Hunt)
