Swindon Men's 1st XI 2, Newent 3

Swindon Men's 1st XI 2, Newent 3

Swindon suffered an absolutely crushing last second defeat at the hands of a determined Newent side.

The first half saw arguably Swindon's best hockey of the season to date; with Steve Dixon finishing a flowing move after the keeper initially stopped the first effort. Despite totally dominating the visitors, Swindon failed to take advantage and the half closed at just 1-0.

The intensity did not drop in the second half, and some fantastic work from skipper Luke Cejer enabled Lewis Dyer to find space in the circle, calmly slipping the ball under the advancing keeper.

Unfortunately, Swindon took their foot off the gas, and allowed Newent back in. A smart deflection from open play followed by another deflected short corner saw Newent tie the score, before the visitors snatched the win in the dying seconds, despite the best efforts of debutant Sam Monks.

We learn from our mistakes and we go again next week, away at Bristol UWE 2s.
