A much needed win for Swindon 1st XI

A much needed road win for the men's 1st XI after a run of tough games against the top sides in the division. Despite a shakey start, Swindon outclassed the home team and should arguably have won by more.

An early chance for Luke Cejer saw a wonderful airshot, which was quickly followed by a defensive error by the visitors which saw Bridgend take an undeserved lead. It was shortlived however, as Swindon played out well from the back, Towers turning and driving at the back line, drawing defender and keeper before slipping in Phil Scarisbrick for the equaliser.

Before the half was out, Swindon capitalised on more good work as Cejer played in James Lewis, who played a first time pass to Towers as the keeper advanced, leaving him with a tap in. Swindon went into the break a goal to the good but knew they needed to up it a few more notches to secure all 3 points.

More good hockey led to more good chances for Swindon, while Lewis Dyer continued to show composure beyond his years in a new central defensive role. Before long, a mêlée in the circle saw the ball pop out to Towers, who bagged his second of the game to make it 3-1. A well worked short corner saw Steve Dixon found by Parsons in the circle, who tipped beyond the keeper for 4-1.

Swindon had numerous further chances, but failed to turn them home, James Lewis unfortunate not to cap a good performance with a goal. Bridgend pulled one back through a short corner, however the result was never in doubt.

A massive game next week awaits, with 2nd placed Devizes heading to Isambard.

MOM: Lewis - classy defensive work.
DOD: Thomas Hunt - wakey wakey, smelly boy.
