Swindon 7 Leominster 6

The men's 1st XI snatched victory from the jaws of defeat with an incredible final two minute turn around to make it three wins on the spin.

The game started well for the hosts, working the ball well and creating early opportunities. Alex Hynes showed perseverance down the right before finding Jim Towers in the circle. Towers remained composed, beating two players before calmly slotting the ball home. Leominster hit back quickly, taking advantage of some indecisive Swindon defending to make it 1-1.

A funny few minutes followed for the home team, which saw Leominster take control of the game with two quick goals, including a well taken penalty flick. Luke Cejer then took hold of the ball, playing a one two with Phil Scarisbrick before slotting the ball into an empty net. 3-2 to Leominster. The travelling side then regained their two goal advantage with a well taken drag flick. Cejer then drove at the heart of the visitors defence, before crashing the ball beyond the goalkeeper. 4-3 to the visitors. Before the half was out, another well taken drag flick saw Leominster go into the break 5-3 to the good.

The half time message was clear; composure and the game could be won. This manifested itself in an early short corner win, which was slipped left to Chris Parsons. A pin point pass found Cejer on the back post, who cooly flicked beyond the keeper for his hattrick and Swindon's 4th goal. Yet another short corner moments later saw Swindon finally draw level. The ball again moved well, before popping out to Towers, who slammed the ball beyond the static keeper.

Despite clearly being the better side, Swindon found themselves undone again following a miss-controlled aerial, which dropped kindly for Leominster, who passed the ball around the despairing Alan Gough. 6-5 to the visitors with 10 to play.

Swindon huffed and puffed, but for all their efforts, it didn't look like it would be their day. With two minutes to go, Towers pinched the ball off the left back, before squaring to Henry Cheney, who took two bites but eventually tied the game at 6-6.

Not content with the draw, Swindon probed again, and a fantastic cross from Parsons was deflected in towards Towers, who angled the ball into the back of the net for the winner.

Skipper Cejer commented that it was one of his proudest days as captain of the 1st XI, commending the team for their grit, determination and composure.

Next week we travel to table-toppers Cardiff & Met B, believing anything is possible.

MOM: Lukey Cejer, captain marvel
