Swindon 3 Bridgend 0

The men's 1st XI made it six wins in seven since Christmas with a solid performance at home to struggling Bridgend. The hosts coasted to victory with gears to spare.

The game started brightly for Swindon with an early goal. Pete Gilbert picked up the ball inside the final third and drove beyond four Bridgend defenders, before finishing with aplomb, wrong-footing the keeper at his near post. Swindon continued to create a number of good opportunities, with Henry Cheney working particularly well down the right of midfield. Swindon remained on top even when playing for about ten minutes with ten due to an unfortunate yellow card for Gilbert, which was followed by a green for Cheney following a stick tackle. The half ended 1-0 to Swindon and Bridgend had started to sneak back into the game.

The half time message from Luke Cejer was clear; composure required and we would run out comfortable winners. Ten minutes into the second half, Swindon doubled their lead through Cheney, who had his initial shot stopped by the keeper, before he calmly tucked the ball away at the second attempt. Swindon looked good for their lead, and veteran keeper Alan Gough was largely a spectator, occasionally rolling back the years for a spectacular short corner save or two.

With minutes remaining, Swindon finally put the game to bed with a third goal. The ball was expertly fired in, deflected by Phil Scarisbrick, before Thomas Hunt popped up to bundle the ball home for his first goal for Swindon.

Skipper Cejer commented after the game that he couldn't remember the last time the team had won so many games in such a short space of time. "Even though we won today, it's good to be critical and understand that we have another few gears to go. Next week's trip to Devizes will be tougher!"

MOM: Pete Gilbert, fantastic goal
DOD: Pete Gilbert, yellow card for coming on the pitch too quickly during a substitution
