and clinch another victory in their last match of the season

Lydney 2 Swindon 4

The men's 1st XI finished the season with a comfortable win over mid-table Lydney, resulting in a respectable third place finish.

The first half played out very much as an end of season affair, with Swindon largely on top of their hosts. Lydney dropped down to ten men as a result of injury, however the visitors struggled to take advantage. Guilt edged chances for Henry Cheney and Pete Gilbert were missed and the first half finished 0-0.

Swindon started the second half well, creating more opportunities and finally taking a deserved lead. James Lewis found Luke Cejer at the top of the circle. Cejer then passed to the majestic Cheney, who drew the keeper, before playing in Chris Parsons. Despite flashbacks of his dreadful miss at Swansea, Parsons remained composed and gave Swindon the lead.

A second goal quickly followed, with more great play down the right. Right back Alex Hynes played in Lewis, who in turn found Cheney. Indisputable vice captain Thomas Hunt (chin up Lewis) was given the opportunity to double his tally for the season, which he took at the second attempt, showing great composure. Lydney managed to pinch a goal back with a bundled finish, however Swindon came back strong again, Steve Dixon skipping beyond the keeper to get onto a dreamboat pass from Hunt to restore the two goal lead.

The best goal of the game was scored by Swindon captain Cejer with 10 minutes to go. James Lewis pinched the ball with a risky, well-timed reverse stick challenge before playing in Cejer with his back to goal. The skipper took one touch to move the ball out of his feet before crushing it into the top corner on the reverse. Despite a late goal for former Swindon player Jake Biddle, the result was never in doubt and Swindon finished with 9 wins in ten since Christmas.

The boys will look to carry their 2015 form onto the new season and seek promotion back to the Championship, reasserting themselves as the best side in Wiltshire. Special mention to the departing James Lewis following his best season for Swindon to date.

MOM: Luke Cejer, great goal, great captain, great guy.
DOD: Phil Scarisbrick, no show!
