Following a disappointing result away at Clifton Robinsons, the men's 1st XI got back to winning ways with an untidy win over a Cheltenham team that would have caused more problems had they played with eleven for the whole game.

Thanks to Jim for this week's match report:

Swindon started brightly, scoring in the first few minutes against the ten men when Omega athlete Thomas Gillingham jabbed the ball away from a defender and into the path of Tom Wickens, who calmly slotted home. A few minutes later a second followed as Dave Miles' straight strike was tipped in by the defender on the right post. A third followed as Wickens grabbed his second following a scrappy short corner that Tom Goldsmith kept alive.

The half finished in frustrating fashion for the hosts as with no time left on the clock (and Cheltenham now up to eleven) an overhead pass found it's way to the Cheltenham danger man at the top of the circle. He controlled well and fired hard beyond Jonathan Griffiths in the Swindon goal.

The second half saw a closer affair, as Swindon tried to play good hockey but struggled to keep hold of the ball. Cheltenham were limited to a handful of opportunities before Wickens completed his hat trick on the reverse following good work from Chris Parsons and Goldsmith down the Swindon right.

After the game, Goldsmith commented, "I did wonder why it felt like they had less on the pitch than us. It turns out they did."

Next week the boys travel to Firebrands A, who today did something we have not done this season, which is take a point off Clifton Robinsons.

MOM: James Lewis, welcome back!
