Firebrands A 5 - 2 Swindon Men's 1st XI

Well that was a bit of a shambles.

The men's 1st XI travelled to rock bottom Firebrands with a bare 11... though that 11 didn't last long. More on that travesty later.

The game started poorly, Firebrands scoring from two short corners, one of which was deflected through Jonathan Griffiths legs, the second of which we defended without Tom Goldsmith who saw green in the build up.

2-0 quickly became 3-0, another short corner I think, before we got back into it with ten on the pitch and a flick was awarded. Captain Thomas Gillingham dispatched with aplomb to give the visitors hope. The second half saw more cards, with Aidan Bramwell seeing yellow for a stick tackle (possibly in the first half, I forget). The boys continued to press to get back into the game.

We then conceded another two rubbish goals, another of which trickled through Griffiths legs. We also scored another, but not before Bramwell was shown a green which was upgraded to a red for being the same offence as his first half yellow. Our goal was scored from a short corner where two Firebrands players were sent up for breaking early. The ball found it's way to Jim Towers at the top who topped the ball towards goal, for James Lewis to score his first of the season.

We had other chances, Darryl Carpenter played well following a long time out injured, Tom Sewell ran around a lot, and Chris Parsons was class. But the game was done and we lost 5-2, having played the vast majority of the game with either 9 or 10 men.
