The men's 1st XI took another big step towards promotion to the Premiership with a comprehensive victory over 4th placed Isca A, denting their hopes of promotion in the process.

Thanks to Jim for this week's match report:

Despite playing with bare 11 for the second week in a row, the boys put in a shift and played the better hockey. Against the run of play, the visitors took the lead from a short corner.

Swindon were undeterred and continued to play good hockey, but it was a quick turnover that saw Phil Scarisbrick bring the scores level. Despite going down to 10 men, Swindon took a deserved lead, again through Scarisbrick who showed great composure in front of goal.

The second half saw Swindon continue to dominate and limit the visitors to one or two chances, with Griffiths largely a spectator. Chris Parsons was again instrumental in the way the team played, and a move started by the veteran midfielder led to Scarisbrick completing his hattrick. The scoring was completed by Dave Miles, unleashing an Omega missile from the top of the circle that was deflected home by the number one runner.

After the game, captain Thomas Gillingham commented, "I really enjoyed that game. Everyone played well and I'm delighted not to be donkey for once."

Next week the boys visit West Wilts, before playing Gloucester at home the week after, in a pair of games that will almost certainly decide their fate for next season.

MOM: Tom Wickens, best game for a while despite not scoring any goals.
