Swindon Men's 1st XI took another big step towards promotion with a comfortable win over West Wilts

Thanks to Jim for this week's match report:

The boys started well, dominating the early plays with Tom Wickens creating good opportunities and winning short corners. The first goal came inside the first 5 minutes or so, from a short corner. Wickens injected and Rob 'h' Riddell controlled at the top, firing beyond the keeper. Not the original plan but a decent outcome nonetheless!

Swindon then conceded a sloppy goal from open play before a short corner was awarded which went in. So from 1-0 up to 2-1 down in the blink of an eye, Swindon regrouped and stepped through the gears. Good play down the Swindon right saw Tom Goldsmith race into the circle, playing the ball into Phil Scarisbrick, who expertly finished to level the scores. Minutes later, Swindon restored their lead with another short corner, with Chris Parsons finding Goldsmith on the back post for one of his trademark tap in goals.

The second half saw the visitors continue to dominate the game and limit West Wilts to a handful of half chances. Aidan Bramwell and James Young provided good performances in midfield alongside Luke Cejer, and it was following good play that Swindon won yet another short corner. The ball was played back towards Wickens, who slapped the ball home first time. The final goal was scored on the deflection by Young from an Omega pass by Dave Miles. A late consolation from another short corner flattered the hosts, Swindon unlucky not to win by more.

Next week the boys host Gloucester in a promotion showdown. Victory will see the Men's 1s promoted, leading to both Men's and Ladies 1st teams playing in the top regional leagues. Your support at The Deanery would be greatly appreciated, with an 11am pushback.

MOM: Aidan Bramwell, great midfield performance
