Whitchurch 2 Swindon 1

Swindon travelled to Cardiff to face the team promoted with SHC last season Whitchurch A, Swindon missing Dyer & Scrase were hoping to build on their impressive start to the season, but the Swindon team lookd jaded and behind the pace of the game, Whitchurch narrowly missing taking the lead inside the first ten minutes as a cross into the area came off the post, GK Gough slipping over as he tried to recover ground and the striker looked certain to score but he put his shot straight at Gough in the Swindon goal who managed to clear the ball. Swindon getting into the game and starting to create chance after chance, but they were being squandered or saved by the GK, and it was the hosts who against the run if play took the lead late on in the half, after the Swindon defence were caught napping and Whitchurch scrambled the ball into the Swindon goal.

The second half saw Swindon again dominate and create attack after attack, but these came to nothing, either not being converted into anything or cleared by the GK and defence, it was with less than ten minutes Swindon did get a goal Adam Ferag scoring from close range after at long last the forwards combined to effectiveness. With time running out Swindon continued to press hard and in the end this was to prove their downfall, with less than 30 seconds on the clock the forwards lost possession and Whitchurch broke quickly, with the defence stretched the cross into the Swindon area was met with a first time strike that sent the ball into the top corner of the Swindon goal, as one umpire was blowing his whistle for the goal the other was blowing his whistle for full time.

The Swindon players couldn’t believe that they had come, dominated the game so much and had been defeated – this was 3 points dropped.
