Swindon recorded another frustrating defeat at the weekend, losing 3-2 to Bristol Uni at home infront of a crowd of nearly 50 passionate fans. Swindon looking to recover from the defeat at the hands of Taunton Vale the week before were hoping that home advantage would see them back to winning ways, but this wasn’t the case as the home side failed to get out of second gear in the first half of the match, defender Tom Saunders being injured within the first 15 minutes saw him retire from the match, then 3 dubious penalty corner decisions from the national league umpire who was umpiring Swindon for the first time saw 3 poor goals let in by the defence and keeper Gough, in reply Tom Gillingham scoring from a penalty stroke after a shot was saved on the line by a defenders foot, and John Scrase scoring a well worked penalty corner from an acute angle, saw Swindon come back within a goal of their visitors just before half time.
The second half saw both teams work hard and stretch the play from end to end, some strange umpiring decisions continued to haunt the home side, and with time running out for the home side it was again Scrase who fired home on a well worked corner only to see his shot saved and cleared off the line to the dismay of the large group of home fans watching this under par performance from their Swindon hockey hero’s.
Man of the match for Swindon was Lewis Dyer, who week on week is growing into his new role of right back.
Next weekend Swindon travel to ECV Hornets (Exeter) and need to get their season back on track.
