Yate leave it late to maintain Swindon's losing streak.

Swindon travelled away to Yate optimistic this week knowing that their opponent had also had a recent dip in form. Conditions were not the nicest thought with the rain falling continuously throughout the day.

Yate were first to score through a poor pass around the back to Will Porter who was at full stretch and trying to move the ball on again under pressure. The ball ended up going straight to an opposition attacker who calmly flicked it over the logging Swindon keeper.

There was an immediate response through Jordan McKenzie with an individual effort, driving hard down the left and eventually towards the goal, tucking the ball away in the bottom corner.

Soon after Swindon took the lead for the first time. Will Porter redeemed himself from his earlier mistake by connecting well from the top of the D on a short corner, putting the ball low and hard into the bottom corner. For the rest of the half, Swindon enjoyed masses of possession but failed to take the chances they were given.

After the break, Yate came out harder and faster than Swindon, eventually earning themselves a short corner. The shot came in from the top right of the D and the Swindon keeper seemingly had it covered, but Ian Hazel wanted to earn himself his second own goal of the season and made the ball take a different path into the net.

Yate put the pressure on some more and earned themselves another short corner. The shot was directed towards the right post, which James Newman came about 6ft off to be a spectator, watching the ball take the line where he should have been stood.

Swindon brought the scores level again though. Phil Scarisbrick held the ball up in midfield before picking out Alex Hynes making a run through the D who eventually popped it in the net.

With the final minutes of the game remaining, Swindon concentration dwindled. Yate drove the ball hard along the right hand side of the pitch and passed into the centre of the D. Whilst this was happening, an attacker left his marker and was stood alone at the top of the D. Before long he made a charging run at the goal and nudged the incoming ball passed the stretched Swindon keeper.

A totally undeserved loss this week, but it shows that we need to keep our concentration right up until the final whistle! If we want to stay in this league, fitness and mental strength must improve. More importantly if we want to survive, we need the result next week when Chippenham come to town!
