A tale of two very different halves for Swindon

Swindon travelled all the way to a sun soaked Royal Wootton Bassett this week. The threes were looking low on players before this fixture but the gaps were filled by to very capable players in the form Peter Gilbert and Tom Sewell. We should pay thanks to our Captain; Hero Hynes for leaving his birthday present in Scotland at 07:30 in the morning. Despite the initial shortage there should be no reason for not winning - unless your keeper leaves his trainers at home (thanks to Alyson Greetham for going home and getting them)

Swindon dominated play from the off with the occasional Bassett response, but nothing to cause any concern. Roughly halfway through the first half, Swindon broke the deadlock, with a ball being fired in from outside of the 25 by Will Porter which took the smallest of touches from a Bassett stick leaving the keeper rooted.

The second half got underway and the two teams were the complete opposite to what they were in the first half. Bassett were pushing harder whilst Swindon showed more and more sloppy defence.

Having survived a lot of the second half playing in this way, a goal was inevitable. A ball was put into the D to a Bassett attacker and with the Swindon keeper shuffling across goal tracking the attacker in a long barrier position, a shot was pulled off with the ball sneaking through the smallest of gaps under the keepers left arm.

Bassett continued to press and before long another huge hole opened in the Swindon defence allowing for the Bassett attacker to pick is spot and hit it.

...What happened? The first half we were a cohesive unit, connecting passes and communicating well. The second half we completely switched off and allowed the opposition to have all the time and space they wanted. The midfield was a real concern too with three defenders marking one attacker for most of the second.

Tom Sewell and Peter Gilbert were both standout players of the game though; they did not give up at any point and have proven they are ready for the next level.
