Swindon paid the ultimate price losing 1-0 to Yate as they failed to convert golden chances in their West Prem 1 fixture.
Yate scored the only goal of the game after 6 minutes when a straight shot went past the Swindon keeper Sarah Anstey
Swindon quickly gained the upper hand and when Victoria Stokes linked with Chloe Lewis, they released Megan Poole to take on the Yate keeper. The youngster skilfully moved the keeper sideways and played an accurate pass to Gemma Scrase to score into an empty net but her shot was saved on the line by a defender.
Swindon continued to press and gained two penalty corners but the home team defended well and went into the interval 1-0 ahead.
Swindon struggled for early momentum in the second half and strong defending from Mary Goldsmith and Claire Tyas kept the score at 1-0. As the team began to build, they created numerous chances but after four more squandered penalty corners, the final whilstle blew sealing the win for Yate.
After the match, Swindon midfielder Linda Brouwers reflected the game. "Our intensity was high but we lacked a cutting edge when it really mattered".
Swindon host Bournemouth at Isambard School at 12.30 on Saturday 15th October.
