Swindon Ladies 1st 2 - Bournemouth 1st 1

Swindon Ladies 1st 2 - Bournemouth 1st 1

Swindon delivered a strong defensive performance and gained their second win in the West Premier league.

A positive Swindon start put Chloe Lewis through one on one with the Bournemouth keeper but she was unable to convert the chance. This turned out to be the best opportunity for Swindon as the more experienced and technically superior Bournemouth took control of the game. With the defence under pressure, some composed and often inspirational saves by the Swindon goalkeeper Sarah Anstey kept the game even at half time.

The interval allowed Swindon to regroup and within four minutes they took the lead. Victoria Stokes used her experience to steal the ball and lay a long pass into the path of Adrianna Adriana Boullosa who needed no invitation to take on the closing defender. She skipped past the challenge and laid a perfect pass to Shona O'Dwyer who scored into an empty net.

The goal allowed Swindon to keep possession and match thier opponents and their direct attacking style saw them score again. In a similar style to the first goal, a fast break down the left was led by Chloe Lewis who's pass found Adriana Boullosa and she finished off the move by scoring from close range.

Facing defeat, Bournemouth upped their game and threw everything into attack. With player of the match Sarah Anstey seemingly looking unbeatable, a rare lapse of concentration by the Swindon defence let Bournemouth score a deflected goal with seven minutes to go.

The last minutes were played without either team really threatening to score, and at the final whistle, Swindon had secured the points.

After the game, midfielder Linda Brouwers was jubilant. "We really worked hard for this win, and whilst it wasn't a perfect performance, we showed that we can dig deep and fight for results."
