Plymouth Marjon 1 - 1 Swindon

Plymouth Marjon 1 - 1 Swindon

Swindon gave a gutsy performance to draw their West Premier league game away at Plymouth Marjons.

With four regular players unavailable, a determined squad held off a talented home team who had the majority of possession during the first half.

With play mainly taking place in the Swindon half, resolute defensive play from Mary Goldsmith and Claire Sage backed by another strong keeping display from Sarah Anstey kept the score at 0-0 at half time.

With only two minutes of the second half played, a strong run from the Plymouth forward was finished with a reverse stick shot that flew into the net.

The goal triggered a strong period for Swindon with Gemma Scrase and Linda Brouwers carving open the opposition defence and creating opportunities for Swindon attackers. When one attack was upgraded to a penalty corner, momentum had swung to Swindon. The corner was firmly struck by teenager Chloe Lewis and the rebound was expertly struck into the roof of the net by Gemma Scrase.

In a frenetic last ten minutes, Plymouth pressed but Swindon stood resolute and the game finished 1-1 securing them an away point.

After the game, Julie Lewis commented on the performance. "We are being challenged in every area - if we can keep our intensity and execute the coach's plan, we will continue to gain valuable points".
