Swindon made the short trip to Yate, who were a place below them in the league. Yate started the stronger team and pinned Swindon back in their half. Though strong defensive performances by Mary Goldsmith, Ella Caldwell and exceptional work from goalkeeper Alexis Hogarth kept the Yate attack at bay. Swindon improved and were unlucky not to score past an agile Yate keeper. Towards the end of the first half a break away goal from Yate left Swindon 1-0 down at half time.
After a rousing team talk by Captain Adriana Boullosa Swindon started the half much more brightly. Chloe Lewis and Linda Brouwers worked tirelessly in the midfield to nullify the Yate attack and Swindon started to put the pressure on.
Attack after attack led to a multitude of short corners and chances for Swindon. However Swindon were unlucky not to score and level the game through chances from Victoria Stokes and Lynsey Wall. With four minutes to go, a brave decision by the captain to go for the win didn’t pay off and Yate capitalised ending the game 2-0.
Player of the match Lex said after the game “It was a battle of the keepers today. We were unlucky not to score, but we look forward to next week where we play mid-table Newent at the Deanery in Swindon.”
