Ladies 1s win to stay top of the league

Thanks to Charlie for this week's match report:

Swindon arrived at Lansdown ready and raring to go albeit without a few usual players. Swindon started the game well with some strong passing around the team. However, in a brief 5 minute spell Lansdown got 2 goals in leaving us 2-0 down after 10 minutes.

Knowing that we needed to improve, Swindon kicked on. There was some nice play between the midfield and the forwards with Linda Brouwers and Hope Stevenson staying strong in the middle. Vic Stokes, Rebs Lightbody, Lyno Wall and Ads Boulossa had some great runs up high giving us plenty of outlets to get the ball high up the pitch. After some great defensive work from Ella Caldwell and Mary Goldsmith, Gemma Scrase had a great run down the right, crossed the ball into the D where Lyno calmly slotted it in. A few minutes later some of the same ensured that it was all square at half time.

The second half started and we were much more in control. With Lansdown trying to smash the ball through us, we had several attacks but couldn’t quite get the ball in the goal. Emily on her debut worked hard down the right making some great runs and finally this won us a short corner. Emily injected, it made its way to Angela Cooke. She did a somewhat altered version of ‘The Ang’ and the ball made its way to Vic to slot it in for our third.

The defence worked tirelessly for the rest of the half to make sure we got the win. Some fab saves from Lex Hogarth and some great teamwork made sure that they did not have a chance. In the last few minutes however we conceded a short corner. Determined not to let it in. The ball was injected, and the player at the top fumbled the pass. Charlie Watson got excited and intercepted it only for the umpire to blow the whistle and tell her she was ‘too quick’. The girls fought hard for the last few minutes though and we secured the win. It wasn’t pretty but we did it! Still top of the league!!

MOM - Emily, great debut!
