Thanks to Gemma for this week's match report:
Swindon Ladies 1st dodged the floods and travelled to Cheltenham, took some of us longer than others but Ella Jayne Caldwell wins with arriving last, congrats!
As with recent weeks we started by far the stronger team, loads of great attacking play from all sides. Cheltenham seemed happy to sit back and take the pressure but this made it difficult for us to penetrated their D and despite owning the majority of possession we failed to earn so much as a short corner in the first half. Cheltenham did have a couple of breaks just before half time catching Swindon off guard, good goal keeping skills from Alexis Hogarth & Linda Brouwers and Angela Cooke both clearing balls off the line, keeping the score at nil all.
Second half proved more challenging as within a few minutes Linda Brouwers had to go off due to injury, forcing Charlie Watson into the middle of the park.
Considering the adjustment, and numerous injuries, Swindon performed gallantly and supported each other across the pitch.
A great team goal starting from Charlie taking a long corner, to Chloe Lewis for no doubt some keepy uppys and then to Adriana Boullosa to spin around a few times before delivering a timely pass to Gemma Scrase who with space and time slotted the ball home.
Was a bit messy at the end as we gave them the chance to equalise, gifting them 2/3 shorts, but Swindon’s defence held strong to end the game with a 1-0 win to Swindon. With other league results going our way (Yate lost their game), Swindon have now won the league by being 13 points clear with 4 games to go, securing promotion for next season.
