Thanks to Jim for this week's match report:
The first half was a cagey affair, especially for young James Lewis at left back. Once the first ten minutes were over, Swindon started to dominate. Despite being on top and creating a number of good opportunities, Gloucester scored from a short corner to make it 1-0 to the visitors. The half ended after Swindon failed to capitalise on their dominance.
The second half saw Swindon come out and give it their all. Jim Towers continued to dominate at the back, picking over head passes without even meaning to. Swindon got back in the game from a Chris Parson's drive that was deflected into the top corner. The crowd went wild! The boys then pushed on and made it 2-1, with a goal from Phil Scarisbrick, which was greeted with a roar from the sidelines. Swindon continued to battle hard, and a 3rd came with Aidan Bramwell dribbled in on the left... a good team move saw another goal for Scarisbrick and the boys were on top.
Swindon continued to defend ably and both Towers and Jonathan Griffiths made excellent stops to prevent Gloucester getting back into the game. With a few minutes to go Swindon gave up a goal but by then the game was safe and Swindon looked more likely to extend their lead than to see an equaliser go in.
When the final whistle arrived it was greeted with a combination of delight and relief, the job was done, promotion was secured.
After the game, Thomas Gillingham gave an emotional speech where he thanked the boys for all their work.
Next week the boys travel to Plymouth Marjon A, knowing it doesn't matter how we do. Because we're promoted!
MOM: Jim Towers, what a legend.
