8. Spectator guidance

Swindon Hockey Club has adopted the England Hockey's Code of Ethics and Behaviour, entitled 'RESPECT', for all those involved in hockey and we would like to remind spectators of the minimum and expected levels of conduct. A copy can be found here.

The Club takes the safeguarding and wellbeing of all its members seriously. As a spectator of SHC activities, we request you follow the guidance below:

• All spectators must respect the spirit of fair play in hockey.

• During training and matches, all spectators will show due respect for the coach, manager or any other official, particularly umpires and their decisions.

• All spectators must respect and make welcome visiting Clubs and assist them in any way possible.

• Spectators are not allowed to consume prohibited substances of any kind whilst watching Club activities.

• Junior spectators are not allowed to smoke or consume alcohol whilst watching Club activities.

• Vocal communications by spectators must not, in any way, be directed at the umpires or players of the opposing team.

In addition the following points should be noted by spectators:

• Small children should not be allowed to wander freely around the perimeter of the pitch whilst games are in progress and should be kept outside any high fencing surrounding the pitch. Children should remain under the control of the parent/carer at all times.

• Babies in push chairs should not be left unattended on the side of the pitch and should be kept outside any high fencing surrounding the pitch.

• Spectators should not sit at ground level, to avoid possible injury from stray balls which may be travelling at speed and power.

• Spectators wishing to take photographs should obtain permission from both captains before doing so. This is especially important where there is the possibility of U18s playing within senior teams.
